It was arguably their best performance of the year, but the margins in playoff hockey are razor-thin. On Saturday night, Tornado Luxembourg left absolutely everything on the ice in Game 2 against the Renards de Roanne, ultimately falling 3-2 in a dramatic overtime finish.
With the loss, Tornado's valiant 2025-2026 playoff run and season have officially come to a close.
Game Recap: A Stunner in the Third Period
Facing elimination on the road against a team with the second-best offense in Division 2, Tornado played with pure desperation and heart.
After falling behind early, the "blue working dress" mentality took over. In a thrilling third period, Tornado mounted an incredible comeback. Grigorijs "Greg" Holodkovs and Nolan Eriksson both found the back of the net, silencing the home crowd, tying the game, and forcing sudden-death overtime.
Tornado had the momentum, but playoff overtime is notoriously unpredictable. Unfortunately, Roanne managed to find the game-winner in the extra frame, securing their ticket to the next round and bringing Tornado's season to an end.
Coach’s Reaction: "The Best Game of the Season"
Despite the heartbreak, Head Coach Christer Eriksson was overflowing with pride for how his team performed under ultimate pressure.
"It was a great playoff game against a top team... we did probably our best game this season. Unfortunately, it didn't take us to a third game, but honestly, I'm very proud of the team and the fighting spirit all game."
Looking at the bigger picture, Eriksson highlighted the massive steps the club has taken this year and the bright future ahead for hockey in Luxembourg:
"Even if it's a disappointment to end the season, we really showed ourselves and hopefully showed everyone around that we are on the way to building something really interesting. If everyone—players, management, partners, rink management, institutions, and our big hockey family (Tornado/Huskies)—can keep up the good job during our second offseason in D2, I'm convinced that we will have a great next season and that together we will 'break the walls' in Kockelscheuer! "
A Massive THANK YOU!
As the curtain falls on an unforgettable Division 2 campaign, Coach Eriksson and the entire team want to express their deepest gratitude to the community that made it all possible:
"At last, a huge thanks to all of you who supported us this season: the public, fans, partners, management, rink management, and our big hockey family in Tornado and Huskies."
The team will now take a well-deserved rest, heal their injuries, and prepare to come back even stronger for the 2026-2027 season.
Thank you for an amazing year. Allez Tornado!🌪️🌪️🌪️
