It was an another entertaining evening for numerous Tornado fans in Kockelscheuer. Tornado beat Gamyo Epinal 7-3 after being 0-3 behind at first. This was 4th home win for Tornado in a row and they raised to share the 4th place in a league table with Dijon.

Unlike in the last game this time the start of the game was nightmare for Tornado. After 2 minutes there was 0-2 for the visitors on the scoreboard. Numerous penalties made the game hard for the home team which ever found a balance in their game during the first period.

In the second period Epinal shocked the audience again by scoring their third goal at time 24.46. But Tornado didn’t give up. It was Olli Kuusjärvi who decided to step up. Apparently the presence of the Mini Huskies (U7 and U9 juniors), who’s coach Kuusjärvi also is, gave some extra motivation to him. It took only 10 minutes in the end of the second period and Kuusjärvi had scored 3 goals and equalized the game to 3-3. This cheered up the whole Tornado team and rest of the game was played more or less under Tornado’s control.

Even though Tornado had the control in the game, they still needed to score at least one more goal to get the full points. As so many times before, it was Colm Cannon, who took the responsibility and scored the important 4th goal with his fabulous wrist shot at time 51.51. Three minutes later Epinal took a penalty and Tornado got a chance to crack Epinal’s back on powerplay. After some nice passing chains Ossi Uotila sneaked to the back post, got the puck there and he had easy job to make the soothing 5-3 goal.

Epinal still saw their chances and they took the goalie off three minutes before the end of the game and tried to score with 6 skaters. That risk didn’t pay itself off as at time 57.42 Teemu Hinkula got a breakaway to the empty net and this chance even him couldn’t miss. In the last minute the hero of the night Olli Kuusjärvi got a breakaway and scored his 4th goal in the game.

As mentioned there is no doubt who was the player of the game. Olli Kuusjärvi was living his dream and led the team to the win with his 4 quality goals. Now Tornado will have 3 weeks pause of the French league games. Meanwhile the team will practice hard and prepare themselves for the last games to achieve their aim, place in the play offs. Next home game will be 6th of February when the league leader Chalons will arrive to Luxembourg. Put the date in your calendar and come enjoy this wonderful sport!
