Mid-Season Review: What happend so far

08 December 2013

We are now midway through the 2013-2014 regular season of the French Division 3. The Tornados currently stand on the third position of group B and our player Yannick Hamri is currently the top scorer of the league. Reason enough for us to take a look back at what happened so far and to draw a conclusion on the first half of the regular season.

First in the standings is Deuil-Garges, the team that played in Division 1 three years ago. They are still unbeaten this season, have scored 40 goals and received only 5 goals against in total. Second is Valenciennes with the same amount of points as the Tornados, but with one less game played. Third are the Tornados (5 wins, 2 losses), followed by the Gaulois Chalons, which the Tornados beat 4-3 yesterday in a game which was simply breath-taking. They are followed by Dunkerque and Le Havre. 7th and last in the standings are the Jokers Cergy with no wins in seven games.

At the end of the regular season (15.02.2014), the four first teams will make the playoffs and each playoff team of group B will play a K.O.-round against a team of group A in a best-of-three series.

So far, the Tornados have scored 42 goals and received only 24 goals against.

More or less surprisingly, two Tornado players are currently in the top 3 point scoring list of the league! First in this ranking is our new addition, Yannick Hamri, with 19 points in 6 games (12 goals + 7 assists), who is at the same time best goal scorer in the league right now. Even though Hamri has not scored a point in the last two games, he remains a major force on the first line and has shown a big impact on his new line with Colm Cannon and Julien Dequidt. Second in the scoring list is, even more surprisingly, a player from Chalons, namely Marek Hanes, who has 17 points in 6 games. Third in the ranking is the Luxembourg native Colm Cannon with 16 points (7 goals + 9 assists).

The next Tornado player in this ranking is Teemu Hinkula, ranked 15th, with 7 points in 5 games. Team captain Ronny Scheier is leading our defensemen with 6 points in 7 games.

19-year-old Bob Schneider is currently first in the league among the most penalized players with 46 penalty minutes in 6 games.

What’s ahead of us?

Roughly said, if the Tornados want to secure their third place in the standings, they will have to win the games against Cergy (11.01 at home), Le Havre (25.01 at home) and in Dunkerque (01.02), which, after all, won’t be such an easy task. The Tornados will travel to Paris next weekend to play against the unbeaten leader Deuil-Garges. A win in this matchup would mix things up, but that will without a doubt be a really tough challenge. The Tornados’ success in the second half of the regular season will also depend on the loud support of the home crowd, so we count on everybody to come to our home games and cheer for us! We need every bit of support!

GO TORNADOS!!
