Tornado Fun Facts

04 January 2013

We've put together a few fun facts and player statistics about the Tornado Luxembourg, of which you surely haven't heard yet. Please notice that these statistics are only counted since the 2006-2007 season, no stats were taken for all the seasons before.

Did you know that...

- Colm Cannon scored his 50th career goal in a Tornado Jersey during the last Alter Domus Cup game when the Tornados won against the Huskies.

- Ronny Scheier is a true leading captain, as he played the most games for the Tornados so far: 88. He's followed by François Schons, who played 71 games for the team.

- Defenceman François Schons is a true brawler. He leads the Tornados with 261 penaltyminutes in only 71 games, that's more than 3,6 penalty minutes a game. He's followed by Ronny Scheier, who has only 154 PIM in 71 games.

- Colm Cannon is only 2 points away from becoming the All-Time Scoring leader in the teams history since 2006. In front of him right now is only Robert Beran with 83 points (36 GP). Notice though that Beran scored all of his points in Division 3, while Cannon can count on 27 points in Alter Domus Cup (so in Division 3, that makes 54pts in 33 games).

- Pierre Hutter is the best French forward in Tornado history (17pts - 39GP), and is thereby on the 14th position of All Time scorers, knowing that the Tornados actually play in a French league.

- Ben Houdremont has the highest points per game rate in Tornado history (Div 3), with 2,5 points per game. This year's new addition, Teemu Hinkula, isn't doing bad either so far, as he has 2,0 PPG in Division 3 right now.

- even though Robert Beran has earned himself a spot among the clubs greatest scorers, he was actually more known for his passing than for his goal scoring. He's leading the All Time list with 48 assists in 36 games, that's almost twice as much as runner-up Colm Cannon.

- Thierry Beran had the all-time best rookie season of all U18-year-olds when he scored 6pts in 4 games in 2009/2010 at age 17. He's followed by Bob Schneider (5pts in 8 games in 2011/2012).

- Ben Houdremont is the only player in the Top10 of all time scorers who has played less then 30 games. He played 12 games and collected 30 points.

- Philippe Lepage is the most penalized goalie in Tornado history. He got 8 penalty minutes in 42 games. This year, he racked up 4 penalty minutes in one game.

- Patrick Schon is the forward with the most games played. He made 66 appearances since the 2006/2007 season.

- Gilles Mangen is the goalie with the most games played since 2006/2007 with 54 appearances, even though he didn't play for the Tornados for two entire seasons.

- Defenceman Ronny Scheier compiles 0,42 points per game on average, but also has an average of 1,75 penalty minutes per game.

- only five players in Tornado history (since 2006) have played more then 50 games: Ronny Scheier, François Schons, Patrick Schon, Gilles Mangen and Marian Gallo

- if the Tornados make the playoffs this year, they will have to count on new faces to lead them, as none of the Top5 players from the list of All-Time Playoff Scorers is an active member of the current team.

- Robert Beran was carrying his team when they last made the playoffs in 2008/2009, as he racked up 24 points in 8 playoff games against the best teams in the league. That year, the Tornados almost made it to the Finals. Second on the team was Benny Welter with 21 points in 8 playoff games.

- Benny Welter is the only player in the Top5 list of All-Time scorers who has less penalty minutes then points.

- among the Top10 list of All-Time scorers, five players are still on the current roster: Colm Cannon, Ronny Scheier, Georges Scheier, Marcus Eriksson, François Schons
