Tornado Season Preview 2019-2020

27 September 2019

The new season has already started and this weekend it is time for the first home game. Despite the painful loss in the second play-off round last season, it should be said that the season was a success. Especially the atmosphere in Kockelscheuer during the last home games was amazing thanks to our great fansl. In sports, you want to improve so the team has set up a goal to reach the 3rd play-off round this year.

Legends retired

There has been some changes in the team. Two Luxembourgish hockey legends decided to retire. You won’t see long time captain, Ronny Scheier and beloved goalkeeper, Gilles Mangen on the ice anymore. Luckily both of them continue working for Tornado backstage.

One tradition we have gotten to get used to in Luxembourg is that young players move abroad to study. This year it was Jesper Miquel and Raoul Kramer who did this move. Also Jusse Lampsijärvi moved back to Finland. Niklas Meijer decided to change to the rivals as he will play this season in Beaufort Knights.

New goalies

As you can probably already guess, we have new goalies this season. Phil Lepage is probably a name which everyone can recognize. He moved back home from Switzerland and will wear the Tornado jersey again. Another new goalie is Maximilien Ludovicy who already practiced with us a part of last season. Also Vincent Carme joined us from Amneville.

Another signing from Amneville is Adrien Maurer who started his Tornado career very well by scoring a hat trick against Metz. Other new players are Markus Beran and Vlad Shelest who finally reached the needed age to be eligible in seniors. Vald already scored in his debut so we are looking for a bright future with him.

We have also some other young guys in our training squad. Let’s see how they develop and when they will be ready to play on senior level.

Core team stays the same

Otherwise most things have been more or less the same as previously. The players are getting older and heavier. Also Robo Beran is again one year more experienced. The whole team is very motivated and there has been a good drive in the practices. We look forward to play front of our enthusiastic fans again. Let’s hope that this group gets a bit bigger again.
