Tornado Luxembourg took their momentum to the French capital this Saturday, facing off against a heavily reinforced Français Volants squad. Despite a relentless comeback effort and a performance full of character, Tornado ultimately fell 5-3 in a game that was much closer than the final score suggests.
Game Flow: A Relentless Back-and-Forth Battle
Right from the opening face-off, the intensity was incredibly high. The Parisians struck first just four minutes in, taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The second period saw the game explode offensively as the teams traded heavy blows. Rowan Miller tied the game early in the period (assisted by Justus Haavanlammi and Jan Shikera). After the Volants retook the lead, Dmytro Danylenko answered right back to make it 2-2, finishing a play set up by Lélian Vix and Luca Faure-Soulet. However, the hosts capitalized on a late-period surge, scoring two quick goals to carry a 4-2 advantage into the final frame.
Refusing to quit, Tornado put on their blue working dress and immediately went to work in the third. Just 20 seconds into the period, Rowan Miller netted his second goal of the night (assisted by Haavanlammi and Félix Sigouin) to narrow the gap to 4-3. Pushing hard for the equalizer in the dying minutes, the coaching staff pulled the goaltender to gain the extra attacker. Unfortunately, Français Volants managed to seal the victory with a buzzer-beating empty-net goal at exactly 60:00, bringing the final score to 5-3.
Coach Eriksson: Never Gave Up
Head Coach Christer Eriksson saw plenty of positives in how the team handled a very experienced opponent and a hot goaltender.
"Once again, another good game from the boys! Not quite enough to get the win, but we’re definitely on the right track! We need to keep our heads up and stay positive! There were a lot of good things to take from this game. The level and intensity were high right from the start, and even though we were chasing the score throughout the game, we kept fighting, never gave up, and came close to turning it around!"
Eriksson also pointed out the strength of the Parisian defense and the deceptive final score:
"The fifth goal came into an empty net after we pulled our goalie, so the final score doesn't really reflect how close the game was. Overall, a very good and tough game against a highly experienced team, with a real wall in their net — a former French national team goalie who stopped almost everything. Lots of positives to build on. We keep working, keep believing, and keep moving forward together!"
Next Up: Back to the Kockelscheuer Cauldron!
The boys won't have to wait long to bounce back. Next weekend, the action returns to Luxembourg as Tornado hosts the Renards d'Orléans [Get your Ticket Here!].
Orléans comes into town having started their season with tough matchups against Reims and Évry-Viry, meaning they will be just as hungry for points as Tornado.
Let's pack the stands and give the boys the home-ice advantage they deserve!
